The Marine Dragonfly combines biology, chemistry, engineering, computers and a large dose of the ingenuity from the AJT/Agrimond Team to significantly eliminate pollution while simultaneously offering substantial financial benefits.
Over the last 15 years, engineers and scientists with AJT and Agrimond developed the Marine Dragonfly, a patented system of waste water treatment. The designers drew from experience on projects spanning the globe and even outer space, such as:
The Marine Dragonfly treats and disinfects wastewater using the most advanced and proven biological processes to consume and break down the waste in the water into basic components like, Nitrogen gas, Oxygen, Carbon Dioxide and other organic compounds. This portion of the process is very similar to processes used everyday in thousand of municipal sewage treatment plants in the US and the World. However, in the Marine Dragonfly, the organic by-products come together with a proprietary blend of bacteria, which is then reclaimed/reused to continue the treatment of the incoming waste. The water from the treated waste stream is then processed through a patented oxygen-based system that removes residual color from the water along with odors. It destroys fecal and e-coli as well as other organisms far more efficiently and rapidly than chlorine or bleach, but without leaving a residue. This reclaimed water is then reused in flushing the toilets and the urinals, and the cycle starts again.
The Marine Dragonfly is so effective that the production of “sludge” or “biomass” is controlled and eliminates pumping out or dumping out. Some of the Marine Dragonfly’s systems in use today have not generated excess sludge in over four years. The first vessel to receive a Marine Dragonfly System was the Indian River Queen, a 260 passenger river boat day cruise ship docked in Cocoa, Florida. Prior to incorporating the Marine Dragonfly system, the pump system worked overtime to remove waste. Now with the new system in operation for over a year, the tank has not required a single pump.
The benefits of a Marine Dragonfly system on ships are substantial including:
The Marine Dragonfly’s primary biological treatment is aerobic. These processes are extremely fast and don’t produce the gases associated with the foul smell of wastewater. Other advantages significant costs savings related to the operation of the vessels. Our motto “NO PUMPING NO DUMPING” attracts the attention of the marine industry. A ship that doesn’t need to plan for these operations is now free to stay in port without planing to empty the tanks if they get full or having to leave the port to empty the tanks out to sea. The captains do not have to go out of their routes to dump the wastewater while in route. The Marine Dragonfly saves the expense and inconvenience of ship movements just to hook up to a pumping station or having to pay for barges to remove the black water. Some of these costs are significant. Some vessels use fresh water for use on their toilets. This water needs top be stored and paid for. The Marine Dragonfly reuses the water hundreds of times before evaporation takes it. If salt water is used, corrosion is a huge problem of ships, by switching to a fresh water Marine Dragonfly system the ship can save a great deal of time and money because the last will stop damaging many of the components such as pumps, valves, pipes, etc.
Many areas in the world are not allowing wastewater discharges even if they are treated, regardless of certifications or cost of their systems on board. Many of these systems do not really “treat” the quality of their wastewater are not the best. Fines for dumping illegally are significant, but unfortunately the violations are also numerous.
